In the aftermath of the tragic death of a visionary, the public is left wondering: what’s next? Steve Jobs has undoubtedly revolutionized the world of technology with his innovation. He wasn’t afraid to go bold or to risk failure to create something that no one else has ever seen before. These risks, however, always seemed to pay off.

But now, with the untimely death, Apple is being questioned. Will they be able to live up to the reputation without the creator behind them?

According to the media, Jonathon Ive, design chief to Apple, could be the one person to keep the company advancing after Steve Jobs. While it was Tim Cook who was named CEO after Jobs resigned, it is Ive that has been the creative behind the company. In fact, he’s been the designer behind all things Apple from the iPod to the iPad.

The media is broadcasting him to be the next big thing; Apple’s saving grace.

However, is this truly what he is? If Ive has been the creative designer all that way back to the iPod then how can Apple’s reputation even be in question? And why haven’t we heard of him until now?

Ive has been in charge of the company’s design team since 1996 so he is by no means a stranger to the company. Yet the media is heralding him as this up-and-coming creative genius. He may be a creative genius, but he by no means up-and-coming. Ive has been around the company for years, and he should have been mentioned for his creations long before now.

Without a doubt, I think that Ive deserves credit and recognition for his innovations, but I have to wonder why he wasn’t given such recognition until now. Apple is by no means my “love” brand, but I do recognize and use the products. And I think Steve Jobs was brilliant at everything he’s done. But if this is true. If Ive has been the creative head behind Apple’s biggest hits, the credit should have already gone to him.

I think the media missed its mark a long time ago in not recognizing Ive sooner. Some analysts’ are even saying that Ive’s keen eye is “even better than Steve Jobs.” That’s a statement that should have been tested a long time ago.

I admit that I, too, wondered about Apple’s success post the Steve Jobs era. Jobs has transformed the image of the company completely, he is the face of Apple and he deserves credit for making the company such a success. But he’s not the only one, and the media should have realized that long before now. Ive has been revolutionizing the industry just as much if not more than Steve Jobs. His vision is the reason the iPod even exists today.

The 44-year-old designer from Britain, in my eyes, should have been a famous face for Apple, just like Jobs was.
